Backyard Hockey is a classic hockey game for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance, released in 2003 by Humongous Entertainment. Developed by the same team that created Backyard Baseball and Backyard Football, Backyard Hockey takes the traditional elements of those games and adds a hockey twist. It features 40 teams from across North America, including real NHL teams like the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Chicago Blackhawks. The game also includes a variety of mini-games such as Air Hockey, Hockey Pinball, and Snowball Fights.

The main gameplay in Backyard Hockey involves playing a season with one of the 40 available teams. You can choose to play single-player or two-player games. In single-player mode you can choose to play against an AI or human opponent. In two-player mode you can play against another human player on the same console or over the internet using a link cable or wireless adapter. Before each game you have the option to customize your team with different players from across North America as well as select your playing style (aggressive, balanced, defensive). You are also able to adjust various settings such as time limit and difficulty level before starting each game.

When playing a match in Backyard Hockey there are several modes available including Exhibition Match (single match), Season Mode (play an entire season of matches) and Tournament Mode (play multiple rounds of matches). During each match you will take control of one team at a time and use their attributes to score goals against your opponents. The objective is to outscore your opponent before time runs out or when either team reaches 10 goals first (depending on which mode you’re playing). If both teams are tied after regulation then sudden death overtime will decide who wins the match.

In addition to regular matches there are several mini-games available in Backyard Hockey which add some variety to the gameplay experience. These include Air Hockey where you must slide pucks around trying to hit them into your opponent’s goal; Snowball Fights where you must launch snowballs at each other while avoiding obstacles; and Hockey Pinball where you use flippers to hit pucks into your opponent’s goal before they do it first. All three mini-games offer some interesting twists on traditional hockey gameplay which make them great fun for anyone looking for something different from regular hockey matches in this game.

Overall, Backyard Hockey is an enjoyable hockey game for people of all ages that offers plenty of replay value with its wide selection of teams, customizable options, mini-games and more. It is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a classic sports title that still holds up today despite its age.
