ATV: Quad Power Racing is an off-road racing video game developed by Climax Brighton and published by Acclaim Entertainment for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. The game was released in November 2001 and was the first ATV racing game to be released for the system.
The game features three different modes of play: Arcade, Championship, and Time Attack. In Arcade mode, the player competes against seven computer-controlled opponents in a race around one of four tracks. Championship mode has the same format as Arcade mode but with a points system; after each race, players are awarded points based on their finishing position which are then tallied up at the end of all five races to determine who is crowned champion. Time Attack mode has no opponents; instead, the goal is to complete a single lap around one of four tracks in the shortest amount of time possible.
Players can choose from eight different riders and eight different quads to race with. Each rider and quad have their own unique stats such as speed, acceleration, handling, weight and suspension; choosing the right combination will give players an edge over their opponents or help them get through a course faster in Time Attack mode.
In addition to these career modes, ATV: Quad Power Racing also features two multiplayer modes which can be played either with multiple Game Boy Advances linked together or with just one cartridge using a "hotseat" pass-and-play system. The first multiplayer mode is Race which follows the same rules as Arcade Mode but allows up to four players to compete against one another simultaneously. The second multiplayer mode is Stunt where players must perform stunts while racing on specially designed stunt courses; points are awarded based on how well they do each stunt which are then tallied up at the end of all five rounds to determine who wins.
Overall, ATV: Quad Power Racing is an enjoyable off-road racing experience for any fan of the genre or anyone looking for some fast-paced action on their Game Boy Advance system. With its multiple modes of play, customizable characters/vehicles, and two-player support (via link cable or hotseat), it offers plenty of replay value for those looking for some off-road excitement on Nintendo’s handheld console.
