Brutal: Paws of Fury is a fighting game released for the Sega CD (also known as Mega-CD) in 1994. It was developed by GameTek and published by Virgin Interactive. The game is set in the fictional world of Kung Fu Island, where anthropomorphic animals battle each other to become the martial arts champion. The player takes control of one of eight animal characters, each with their own unique style of martial arts and special moves.

The game features an extensive story mode that follows the player’s chosen character on their journey to become the champion. The player must battle through a series of opponents, including bosses, in order to progress through the story. There are also several mini-games available throughout the course of the game which can be used to earn extra points or power ups.

The gameplay in Brutal: Paws of Fury consists mainly of two-dimensional side scrolling fighting sequences similar to those found in classic arcade fighters such as Street Fighter II or Mortal Kombat. Each character has their own unique set of punches, kicks, throws and special moves which can be combined into combos for additional damage. Special moves require “Chi” energy which can be replenished by performing certain actions or collecting power ups scattered around the stages.

The visuals in Brutal: Paws of Fury are cartoonish and colorful, featuring bright colors and detailed 2D sprites reminiscent of classic 16 bit games. The music is upbeat and catchy, providing a nice backdrop for battles while also fitting nicely with the overall aesthetic of the game.

Overall, Brutal: Paws of Fury is an enjoyable fighting game that provides a good challenge while also offering plenty of variety with its diverse cast and multiple modes. With its colorful visuals and catchy soundtrack it remains an entertaining title that fans of classic fighters should definitely check out if they ever get their hands on a Sega CD console.
