Blackthorne is a side-scrolling action-adventure video game released for the Sega 32X in 1995. Developed by Blizzard Entertainment, Blackthorne was the first game to be released on the 32X, and is based on a comic book series of the same name.

The story centers around Kyle Vlaros, also known as Blackthorne, who is a half human/half alien hybrid. He was taken away from his home world as an infant and raised by humans on Earth. After learning of his alien heritage, he sets off on a quest to reclaim his kingdom from the evil Sarlac, who has been ruling it with an iron fist. Along the way he must face many obstacles, including monsters and enemies that stand in his way.

Gameplay consists mostly of exploring levels and defeating enemies with various weapons such as shotguns and grenades. The player can also use objects in the environment to their advantage, such as pushing crates onto enemies or using ladders to reach higher areas or avoid enemies altogether. There are also puzzles which require careful thought and exploration of levels to solve them.

The graphics are 16-bit style sprites with detailed backgrounds and animations that give a very cinematic feel to the game. The soundtrack is composed by Glenn Stafford and fits well with the overall atmosphere of the game; it’s eerie yet exciting at times and gives an additional layer of tension while playing.

Overall, Blackthorne is an excellent example of what can be achieved on the Sega 32X system in terms of graphics and audio quality; there are some great moments throughout where you will find yourself immersed in its world due to its visuals coupled with its excellent soundtrack. The gameplay mechanics are solid too; there are plenty of puzzles to figure out which keep things interesting whilst exploring each level, making for hours upon hours worth of gaming entertainment that all fans should experience at least once.
