Zombies Ate My Neighbors is a top-down action shooter game that was released on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1993. It follows two protagonists, Zeke and Julie, as they battle their way through levels filled with monsters and zombies in an effort to save their neighbors from certain doom.
The game puts you in control of either Zeke or Julie, each with their own set of abilities. Zeke is the more agile of the two, able to move quickly and jump higher than Julie. He can also pick up items such as weapons and health packs faster than Julie. On the other hand, Julie is stronger and can push objects around like furniture or crates which can be helpful when trying to reach certain areas or block off enemies.
The main objective of each level is to rescue all of the neighbors who have been kidnapped by monsters or zombies before time runs out. The levels are filled with various enemies such as werewolves, vampires, giant ants, mummies, mad scientists and more. You must use your wits and weapons to navigate around them and make it to each neighbor in time before they are eaten by zombies! The game has a total of 48 levels split across four episodes (each episode featuring 12 levels).
Throughout the game you will find various power-ups that will help you on your mission such as food items which give you extra lives or weapons like bazookas which can be used to take out large groups of enemies at once. There are also hidden bonus items scattered throughout the levels which will give you extra points when collected - these can range from soda cans to books or even cats!
In addition to rescuing your neighbors there are other objectives that need to be completed in order for you to progress through each level. These include finding keys to unlock doors or destroying certain objects such as coffins or tombstones with bombs. If you manage to complete all objectives before time runs out then you will receive bonus points at the end of the level.
