Ultimate Qix, released in 1991 for the Sega Genesis (also known as the Sega Mega Drive) was a game developed by Taito and published by Accolade. It is an action-arcade game that requires players to battle against computer-controlled opponents in order to complete levels.
The objective of Ultimate Qix is to take control of a small ship, called a Qixer, and maneuver it around a playfield while avoiding stationary obstacles. The player must also avoid enemies who are attempting to capture them. As each level progresses, the player must draw lines around portions of the playfield in order to claim them; only after all areas have been claimed can the next level be unlocked. Players must also collect power-ups scattered throughout each level in order to gain an advantage over their adversaries.
The game consists of five stages which are made up of multiple levels each. Each stage has its own unique set of enemies and obstacles that increase in difficulty as players progress through them. Ultimate Qix also includes two bonus stages which require players to navigate their way through mazes filled with enemies and obstacles in order to reach the exit before time runs out.
One of the most noteworthy features of Ultimate Qix is its multiplayer mode which allows two players to compete against each other on split screen levels. In this mode, players can battle against each other directly or cooperate together in order to complete levels more quickly.
Overall, Ultimate Qix is an exciting action-arcade game that offers plenty of challenge and replay value for gamers looking for an intense gaming experience on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console. Its intuitive controls make it easy for newcomers to pick up while its multiplayer mode adds an extra layer of depth that will appeal to seasoned veterans alike. With its vibrant visuals and engaging gameplay, Ultimate Qix remains one of the best titles available on this classic console system.
