Tinhead is a 2D side-scrolling platformer game released for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1993. The player controls Tinhead, a robot who must traverse through five levels of varying difficulty and collect items to progress. Tinhead has the ability to transform into three different forms; a car, a plane, and a submarine. Each form has its own unique abilities which can be used to access areas that are otherwise inaccessible.
The game's storyline revolves around Tinhead's mission to save his home planet from destruction. He must travel across the galaxy, defeat enemies, and collect items in order to progress further in the game. Along the way he will encounter various obstacles such as spikes, pits, moving platforms, enemies that shoot projectiles or attempt to push him off ledges and various other traps that require quick thinking and reflexes in order to overcome them. In addition to this there are also mini-games scattered throughout each level which require careful timing and strategy in order to complete them successfully.
The graphics of Tinhead are quite basic but they still manage to capture the atmosphere of its sci-fi setting perfectly with its vibrant colours and detailed backgrounds. The soundtrack is also quite catchy with its upbeat techno tunes lending an extra layer of excitement to each level. The controls are simple yet effective allowing for easy navigation around each stage while still allowing for precise movements when needed.
Overall Tinhead is an enjoyable experience that offers up plenty of challenge even on lower difficulty settings making it well worth checking out if you’re looking for something new on your Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console. It’s a great example of how platformers can be made interesting even without having fancy graphics or complex gameplay mechanics at their disposal as it manages to remain enjoyable throughout despite this fact.
