Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is a platform game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, developed and published by Sega on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console. It was released in 1994, following up on the success of its predecessor, Sonic The Hedgehog 2. The game centers around Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, as they journey through multiple levels in order to collect the all-powerful Chaos Emeralds before their rival Dr. Eggman can get his hands on them, who's ultimate goal is to take over the world.
The game begins with Sonic and Tails (player optionable) arriving at an island suspended in midair called Angel Island. This area is home to mysterious creatures called Flickies that are capable of teleporting from place to place when put together in groups of 5. Sonic soon discovers that Dr. Eggman has come to Angel Island seeking out the Chaos Emeralds in order to control it using his robot Badniks and steal its power source; the power behind it being known as the Master Emerald. With this he hopes to take control of all seven Chaos Emeralds needed in order for him to achieve his ambitious plans. To prevent this, Sonic and Tails must search through different levels searching for these Chaos Emeralds while fending off robotic enemies created by Eggman, which involve hazards such as crumbling platforms or bottomless pits.
Also accompanying them on their journey are Knuckles who joins them along the way, tagging along with his own mission; he’ll help you escape some tighter spots but also act as an antagonist throughout some parts of your journey as he will sometimes try to attack or even steal your earned Chaos Emeralds if left unchecked! As well as adding an extra layer of difficulty level design wise if players opt for the two player simultaneous mode options where one Player handles both Sonic & Tails whilst Player two takes on Knuckles instead giving everybody double dose of controller mayhem!
The gameplay still very much remains true to tradition with action taking place across several diversely themed Zones each usually lasting between two stages providing something new each time you traverse them making things seem a bit more varied compared to its predecessors and even beating out games like Super Mario Brothers Super Show that came out a few years prior! Every stage aside from having its goals consist mostly relying upon platforming segments full of badniks & hazards but usually concludes with another boss battle one of Dr Eggman’s iconic inventions built specifically designed make sure you don’t complete this quest easily!
-Aside from regular running & jumping levels also have other gimmicks scattered throughout such as rafting stages featuring special items used for navigation or earning bonus points speeding levels where you can use asteroids as temporary speed boosts & fire breathing obstacles requiring split second transformations from running into spinning turning flames off quickly before they extinguish you!
