Rocky and Bullwinkle, The Adventures of is a video game based on Jay Ward's popular cartoon series starring Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Bullwinkle the Moose. The game was released for the Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, and SNES platforms in 1995. The game was developed by Konami and follows the same plotline as the original cartoon series.
The game follows two beloved characters on their grand adventures: Rocky and his best friend Bullwinkle. Players take control of one or both characters, running, jumping and throwing jokes throughout each level. Players also battle various villains from Fearless Leader to Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale with various weapons like rubber bands, boomerangs, marshmallow shooters and jars of peppy-sauce.
Players travel through five unique levels; each featuring vibrant 3D graphics that capture the spirit of the classic cartoon designs and world inhabited by our heroes. These include a mystic volcano in A Peabody Adventure, an underground lab at Counter Spy Centerspector HQ Mystery Inc., a scenic mountain village in To Sherwood Forest & Beyond! Certain levels are also randomized every time they are played with enemies spawning at different locations so as to keep each level fresh every time it is played. An added bonus allows players to take photos for their photo album which can be found scattered around each level. The addition of puzzles within each level enriches gameplay further by providing extra challenges beyond those found in traditional platformers inciting further exploration from daring players.
The music featured across the different levels enlivens the already adventurous plot featuring several tracks from Chuck Mangione (selected from his albums Fun And Games and Feels So Good) alongside renditions of old Americana tunes such as By The Rivers Of Babylon or Take Me Out To The Ball Game. All this adds up to create a full package that reaches far beyond what most 16 bit games had done before it inviting players plunge head first into a joyous world brimming with laughter, challenge and awe inspiring sights – all part of “The Adventures Of Rocky And Bullwinkle”!
