Griffin is a Sega Game Gear game released in 1992. It is a side-scrolling shoot ‘em up where the player takes control of a griffin, tasked with fighting off hordes of enemies and rescuing princesses from their captors. The game features five levels, each with its own unique set of enemies and obstacles. The levels are split into two parts: the first part being a horizontal scrolling section, followed by a vertical scrolling section where the player must fight off waves of enemies before reaching the end.

The griffin can be controlled using either the d-pad or buttons to move left and right, as well as jump and shoot fireballs at its foes. The fireballs can be charged up for more powerful shots, however this will leave the griffin vulnerable to attack while doing so. The game also introduces power-ups which can be collected throughout each level; these range from health regeneration items to additional firepower such as homing missiles and spread shots.

In addition to battling against enemy forces, Griffin also includes various platforming elements such as jumping over gaps or dodging obstacles in order to progress through each level. There are also bonus stages between certain levels where players are presented with puzzles or mini-games in order to gain extra points or lives.

The graphics in Griffin are very detailed for a Game Gear title; each character sprite is well drawn and animated with plenty of colour and detail used throughout the world design. The music is upbeat and catchy, adding an extra layer of energy to the action on screen.

Overall Griffin is an enjoyable side-scrolling shooter that offers plenty of challenge for experienced gamers while still remaining accessible enough for newcomers too. It’s colourful visuals and catchy soundtrack make it an excellent choice for those looking for some classic Sega fun on their Game Gear console!
