Ecco the Tides of Time is a side-scrolling action-adventure game developed by Novotrade International and published by Sega for the Sega Game Gear in 1994. The game is the sequel to Ecco the Dolphin, which was released two years earlier on the Sega Genesis. In Ecco the Tides of Time, players take control of Ecco, a dolphin who must traverse through time and space to save his family and his home from destruction.

The game begins with Ecco traveling through time and space in search of his missing family. He soon discovers that they have been taken by an alien race known as The Foe, who are trying to use their powerful technology to alter history and create a world in their own image. To stop them, Ecco must travel back in time and find five artifacts called Time Keys, which will allow him to unlock five different eras that hold the secrets he needs to save his family.

Gameplay involves controlling Ecco as he explores a variety of environments including oceans, rivers, caves and air-filled chambers. Players can use several abilities to help them explore these areas such as sonar (which acts like a radar), speed boost (which allows for faster swimming) and bubble breath (which can be used to stun enemies). As well as exploring each area, there are also puzzles that need solving using objects found along the way or by interacting with other characters encountered throughout the game.

In addition to exploring each era, players must also battle various enemies including jellyfish, sharks, sea monsters and robotic creatures sent by The Foe. These battles involve attacking enemies with sonar blasts or ramming into them while avoiding their attacks at the same time. Once all five Time Keys have been found, players can then use them to access an additional level known as "The Vortex" where they can face off against The Foe's leader in an epic final battle.

Overall, Ecco: The Tides of Time is an enjoyable action-adventure game that offers plenty of fun exploration elements combined with challenging battles against enemies. It has great visual effects for its time along with a unique soundtrack that fits perfectly with its underwater setting. With its engaging gameplay mechanics and interesting story line this title remains one of Sega's best Game Gear titles and definitely worth playing today!
