Tetris & Dr. Mario is a puzzle video game released for the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) in 1994. Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, it is a combination of two classic puzzle games: Tetris and Dr. Mario. The objective of the game is to clear all viruses on the playing field with pills while avoiding obstacles and clearing lines of blocks in Tetris mode.
In Tetris mode, the player must arrange falling blocks into horizontal lines that are then cleared from the screen when complete. The player can rotate the blocks clockwise or counterclockwise, as well as move them left or right to fit them into place. The game ends when the blocks reach the top of the screen and cannot be placed any further. As lines are cleared, more blocks appear at the top of the screen, increasing in speed as time passes. Players can also choose from multiple levels of difficulty which determine how quickly new blocks appear.
In Dr. Mario mode, players must clear viruses from a playing field using colored pills dropped from above by rotating them and placing them onto existing viruses. The goal is to create matches between four or more viruses of the same color, which will cause them to disappear from play. As with Tetris mode, players can choose between multiple levels of difficulty which affect how quickly new pills appear on screen. Players can also select different music tracks for each game type to add an extra layer of customization to their experience.
The two modes provide hours of fun for solo players as well as intense competition between friends trying to outscore one another in either game type. Additionally, there are several other features such as bonus stages and power-ups that make this version unique compared to other versions available at the time. Its timeless gameplay has made it one of Nintendo’s most enduring titles and a mainstay in many gaming collections around the world today.
