Secret of Evermore is a 1995 action role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It is the first game to be developed in North America by Square, and was released on October 1, 1995 in North America, November 1995 in Japan and June 1996 in Europe. The game follows a teenage boy and his robotic dog as they travel through different realms of a world known as Evermore.

The story begins with the protagonist living with his father in Podunk, USA. One day, while exploring an abandoned mansion outside of town, he discovers a strange machine that sucks him into another world called Evermore. He finds himself accompanied by a robotic dog named Bombo who helps him navigate the new land. There are four distinct regions within Evermore that he must explore: Prehistoria (prehistoric times), Antiqua (medieval times), Gothica (Renaissance era) and Neo-Gothica (futuristic era). In each region, he must battle monsters and solve puzzles to progress further into the game. The ultimate goal is to discover the secret of Evermore in order to return home.

In order to survive in each realm and progress through the game, players have access to a variety of weapons such as swords and bows as well as magic spells which can be used against enemies or for puzzle solving purposes. Players can also use items found throughout their journey to help heal themselves or create special weapons such as bombs or arrows with special properties. As the player progresses further into Evermore, they will gain access to more powerful weapons and armor which can be upgraded using alchemy recipes found throughout the game world.

The combat system features real-time action where players must attack enemies quickly before they are able to retaliate. Players can also team up with Bombo who can perform various actions depending on what commands are given by the player during battle. Additionally, there are various bosses scattered throughout each realm that must be defeated before progressing further into the game world.

Secret of Evermore offers an expansive adventure filled with exciting challenges for players of all ages. With its unique blend of action-RPG elements combined with its memorable characters and vibrant art style, it is easy to see why Secret of Evermore has become one of Square’s most beloved titles from its time period.
