Demon’s Crest is a side-scrolling platform video game developed and published by Capcom for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was released in Japan in November 1994, and in North America and Europe in December 1994. The game is set in the fantasy world of Demon’s Crest and follows the protagonist, Firebrand, as he fights to reclaim a powerful artifact known as the Demon’s Crest.
The premise of Demon’s Crest is that Firebrand has been cursed with a demonic form that bestows upon him incredible strength and power. He is determined to use these newfound powers to reclaim the Demon’s Crest from an evil sorcerer named Phalanx. The game features six unique levels across three distinct worlds: Gothic Castle, Subterranean Caverns, and Netherworld. Each level contains its own unique enemies, items, puzzles, and challenges that must be overcome before progressing further into the game.
Firebrand’s primary form of attack is his fireball breath which can be used to defeat enemies or break blocks to reveal items or secrets. Additionally, he can collect special items called “Crests” throughout each level which grant him special abilities such as flight or invincibility for a short period of time. By collecting enough Crests, Firebrand can gain access to new areas of the game or acquire powerful weapons such as swords or axes that can be used against tougher foes.
The main objective of Demon’s Crest is to progress through each level while collecting enough Crests to reach new areas or acquire powerful weapons. Once all six levels have been completed, Firebrand will face off against Phalanx in a final showdown where he must use his newfound powers and weapons to defeat him once and for all. Upon completion of the game, players are rewarded with one final challenge - a boss rush mode where they must battle all previous bosses again in order to unlock additional endings and secret stages.
Demon's Crest offers both intense action gameplay as well as challenging puzzles for players looking for more than just button mashing action sequences. With its unique mix of exploration elements combined with classic platforming gameplay mechanics, Demon's Crest remains an enjoyable experience even after 25 years since its release on the SNES console system.
