Adventures of Tintin, The – Prisoners of the Sun is a classic Super Nintendo action-adventure game released in 1994. It is based on the popular comic book series by Belgian artist Herge and follows the story of young reporter Tintin and his faithful dog Snowy as they travel around the world to solve mysteries and uncover hidden secrets.
The game begins with Tintin and Snowy arriving in Peru to investigate a mysterious kidnapping involving Professor Calculus. After being captured by Incan warriors, he discovers that their leader, Cuzco, has been searching for an ancient relic known as the Sun Disc which he believes will give him immense power. With help from his friends Captain Haddock and Thomson & Thompson, Tintin sets out to find the disc before Cuzco can get his hands on it.
The gameplay consists of a mix of platforming levels where players must jump over obstacles and enemies while collecting items such as coins and health-replenishing hearts. There are also puzzle elements that require players to think strategically in order to progress further into the game. Alongside these elements there are also boss fights which involve quick reflexes as well as timing your attacks just right in order to defeat them.
In order to traverse through each level players must collect keys which unlock doors leading onto new areas or objects which are used for solving puzzles such as levers or switches that open up secret passageways. There are also hidden rooms scattered throughout each level containing special items which can be collected for bonus points at the end of stages.
Graphically, Adventures of Tintin – Prisoners of the Sun looks quite good for its age with bright colors and detailed sprites that capture the look of Herge’s artwork very well. The soundtrack is also quite fitting with upbeat tunes that keep you motivated while playing through each stage.
Overall Adventures of Tintin – Prisoners of the Sun is an enjoyable action-adventure game with plenty of puzzles, secrets, enemies and bosses for you to face off against during your journey through Peru. It may not be as well known compared to some other Super Nintendo titles but it still remains one worth checking out if you’re looking for a fun challenge from back in 1994!
