Tiger-Heli is a classic side scrolling shooter game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1985. Developed by Toaplan and published by both Pony Canyon and Micronet, Tiger-Heli was one of the earliest shoot ‘em up games available for the NES. It has become a cult classic among retro gamers, with its simple yet challenging gameplay, vibrant graphics, and catchy soundtrack.
The objective of Tiger-Heli is to control a helicopter as it flies through six levels filled with enemies, obstacles, and power ups. The player must carefully maneuver the helicopter around each level while avoiding enemy fire and taking out as many targets as possible. As you progress through the levels, you will encounter different types of enemies such as jets, tanks, ships and helicopters; each type with their own unique weapons and tactics. You can pick up power ups such as missiles or bombs to help take out more powerful enemies.
The graphics in Tiger-Heli are fairly basic compared to other games on the NES but they still manage to create an enjoyable atmosphere. The vibrant colors are pleasing to look at while still maintaining a sense of danger due to the constant barrage of bullets coming from all directions. The sound effects are also quite good with explosions sounding appropriately powerful while your shots have a satisfying “pow” when they hit their target.
One of the most interesting aspects of Tiger-Heli is its difficulty curve which starts off easy but quickly ramps up until it reaches its peak in the fourth level where you face off against multiple jets that fly around in unpredictable patterns making them difficult to hit. This challenge is further increased by the fact that there are no continues or extra lives so once your lives run out it’s game over!
Overall Tiger-Heli is an excellent side scrolling shooter game for the NES that has stood the test of time thanks to its simple yet challenging gameplay and vibrant graphics. Despite its age it still remains an enjoyable experience for retro gamers who want to relive this classic title from their childhoods.
