Nobunaga’s Ambition 2 is a strategy game released in Japan for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1990. Developed by Koei, this game was the second installment in the popular Nobunaga’s Ambition series. In this game, you take control of one of five powerful warlords from Japanese history – Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Uesugi Kenshin, Takeda Shingen and Date Masamune – and attempt to unify Japan.
The gameplay is turn-based and takes place on a map of Japan divided into provinces. Each turn you can move your armies around the map and engage in battle with other warlords or villages. You can also build castles or recruit troops to increase your strength. Each province has its own resources which can be used to help you achieve victory over your enemies. As you progress through the game you will encounter historical events such as battles between rival warlords or invasions from foreign powers that must be dealt with accordingly.
In addition to the main campaign mode, there are also several other modes available including a “Free Mode” where players can customize their own campaigns using any combination of warlords and provinces they wish. There is also a “Versus Mode” which allows two players to battle against each other on either the same map or different maps with different rulesets. The graphics are basic but serviceable with an 8-bit aesthetic that fits well with the NES hardware. The music is composed by Koichi Sugiyama and creates an appropriate atmosphere for each stage of play.
Overall, Nobunaga’s Ambition 2 is an excellent strategy game for the NES that offers a great deal of depth and challenge for those willing to put in time to learn its intricacies. Its mix of historical accuracy and tactical gameplay makes it enjoyable both as a singleplayer experience or when playing against friends in local multiplayer games. If you are looking for an old school strategy game then Nobunaga’s Ambition 2 is definitely worth checking out!
