Taz-Mania is a platform video game developed by the now-defunct company, Realtime Associates and published by Sega for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1994.
It is based on the popular cartoon series of the same name which aired from 1991 to 1995.
The game was released around the same time as its console counterpart, Taz-Mania 2: The Search for the Lost Seabirds.
In Taz-Mania, players control Tasmanian Devil (or "Taz"), a Looney Tunes character.
Players explore levels filled with enemies and obstacles while collecting items such as food or power-ups that give Taz special abilities like increased speed or invincibility.
As players progress through the levels, they also encounter bosses that must be defeated in order to move on.
If all lives are lost at any point during play, players must start over from the beginning of the level.
The game has four worlds; each world consists of five levels plus one bonus level per world.
The first three worlds have a traditional side-scrolling platformer style while the fourth world takes place on an island with top-down gameplay similar to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
One unique feature of this game is that it allows two players to play simultaneously using a Game Link cable; however, both players must possess their own copy of the game in order for this feature to work.
Taz-Mania's graphics are quite good for its time; however, they are not particularly impressive compared to other games released around this era.
The sound effects and music are quite minimalistic but they do fit well with the theme of each stage and add some atmosphere to what would otherwise be an unremarkable experience.
Overall, Taz-Mania is an enjoyable game despite its simplistic nature and dated graphics.
It may not be as popular as other classic platformers such as Super Mario Bros., but it does offer some fun moments due to its interesting level design and two player mode which can make for some great competitive gaming sessions between friends or family members who own multiple copies of this title
