Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is a classic platforming game released for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1992.
Developed and published by Nintendo, it was the first sequel to Super Mario Land and is often considered one of the best games on the system.
The game follows Mario as he attempts to reclaim his castle from Wario, who has taken over while Mario was away.
The game features five levels and an optional sixth level that must be unlocked before it can be played.
The gameplay of Super Mario Land 2 remains largely unchanged from its predecessor.
Players take control of Mario as they traverse through various side-scrolling levels while fighting enemies, collecting coins, and avoiding obstacles.
The main objective is to reach the end of each level while defeating enemies along the way.
Along with traditional platforming elements, there are also some unique mechanics such as having to collect a certain number of coins in order to open doors or progress further into a level.
In addition, each level contains hidden items which can be collected for points or bonus items such as extra lives or power-ups.
One major difference between this installment and its predecessor is the introduction of Wario as a villain.
He serves as an antagonist throughout the game, often appearing at key moments to challenge Mario’s progress with his own adversaries or powers.
He also holds six golden coins spread across different levels that must be collected in order to unlock the secret sixth world known as Sarasaland.
This world contains four additional levels that must be completed before reaching Wario's castle and facing him in battle for ultimate victory.
The graphics of Super Mario Land 2 are greatly improved from those found in its predecessor with more detailed sprites, larger environments, and more vibrant colors used throughout each stage.
The music has also been enhanced thanks to new compositions created by composer Kazumi Totaka who would later go on to compose many other popular games including Animal Crossing and Yoshi's Story among others.
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins is still widely praised today for its tight controls, challenging yet rewarding difficulty curve, clever level design, catchy soundtrack, and colorful visuals all combined into one package that remains enjoyable even after all these years since its release back in 1992 on Nintendo’s Game Boy system.
It stands out among other platformers on the system not only because it was one of the first sequels released but also due to its unique blend of traditional platforming elements mixed with some creative new ideas such as being able to collect coins in order to open doors or progress further into a level which had never been done before at the time making it both memorable and enjoyable even today for fans old and new alike!
