Megaman: Dr. Wily’s Revenge is a classic side-scrolling action game for the Nintendo Game Boy. Developed and published by Capcom, it was released in 1991 and is part of the Megaman series. It is the first Game Boy installment in the franchise and follows the events of the original NES Megaman game.
The story revolves around Dr. Wily’s latest scheme to take over the world using eight powerful Robot Masters he has created. After being defeated by Megaman in the NES game, Wily has returned with a vengeance to seek revenge on his nemesis. To do so, he has sent out his new robot army to wreak havoc across the world. It is up to Megaman to once again stop him and restore peace to mankind.
The gameplay remains largely unchanged from its predecessor, but with some added features that make it more enjoyable for players of all skill levels. As Megaman, you must traverse through eight stages filled with enemies, traps, puzzles, and bosses in order to reach Dr. Wily’s fortress at the end of each stage. The player can acquire power-ups such as extra lives or energy tanks throughout each stage which can be used when needed during boss battles or difficult sections of a stage.
The difficulty level can be adjusted by selecting either Normal or Hard mode before starting a stage; Normal mode features fewer enemies while Hard mode increases enemy numbers and introduces various obstacles that make it more challenging for experienced gamers. Additionally, there are four secret stages which can be unlocked by completing certain tasks within the main stages; these secret stages contain unique items that are necessary for defeating Dr. Wily at the end of the game.
Overall, Megaman: Dr. Wily’s Revenge is an excellent installment in the iconic Megaman series and a great example of how action games should be done on handheld systems like Nintendo’s Game Boy line of devices. Its visuals remain impressive even after nearly three decades since its release date and its soundtrack is one of best among games released on this platform; all these elements combined make this entry one of most enjoyable action titles available on Game Boy console library..
