Rainbow Islands for the Nintendo Game Boy Color is an innovative and unique platformer game that has delighted gamers since its debut in 1991. The game was developed by Taito Corporation, a Japanese video game company who had previously developed Bubble Bobble. Rainbow Islands was released to critical acclaim and became one of Taito’s most successful titles.
In Rainbow Islands, players take control of the protagonist, Bobby, as he embarks on a quest to save his beloved hometown from destruction. The story begins when Bobby discovers a mysterious rainbow-colored crystal while walking through the woods near his house. Unbeknownst to him, this crystal is actually the key to saving his town from a powerful evil force known as “Doom Island”. In order to defeat Doom Island and restore peace and harmony to his home, Bobby must brave seven islands filled with monsters, traps, and puzzles in search of seven magical rainbows.
As players progress through each island they will encounter various enemies such as bats, ghosts, slimes, turtles, and more. Some enemies can be defeated with simple jumps or shots from Bobby’s weapon while others require more complex strategies like using special power-ups or taking advantage of environmental hazards such as spikes or rolling boulders. Additionally, players can collect coins which can be used to purchase items like extra lives or special power-ups that can be used throughout their journey.
The main objective of Rainbow Islands is for players to reach the top of each island before time runs out in order to move onto the next level. As they progress through each island they must avoid obstacles such as falling rocks or rising water levels while also collecting rainbow orbs which unlock new areas of the game world. Collecting enough rainbow orbs will eventually allow them access to the final boss battle against Doom Island itself where victory will secure their home from destruction once again.
Rainbow Islands offers an enjoyable experience with its vibrant graphics and catchy soundtrack that are sure to keep you entertained for hours on end. The game also features multiple difficulty levels so even novice gamers can get in on the action quickly without feeling overwhelmed by too much challenge right away. Despite being over two decades old now, Rainbow Islands remains an all-time classic and continues to attract numerous fans thanks to its timeless gameplay mechanics and charming visuals!
