Grand Theft Auto 2 for Nintendo Game Boy Color is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Rockstar Games and released in 1999. The game is the second installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, following 1997’s Grand Theft Auto.
The story of the game takes place in Anywhere City, a fictional metropolis based on Los Angeles. Players take on the role of Claude Speed, a small-time criminal who has been hired by various gangs to perform various tasks. The main objective of the game is to complete missions assigned by different gangs while trying to survive against rival gangs and police officers.
The gameplay of Grand Theft Auto 2 consists of completing missions given by one of four gangs: The Zaibatsu Corporation, The Loonies, The Rednecks, and The Scientists. As Claude completes missions for each gang, they will become more powerful and will offer bigger rewards for subsequent missions. In addition to completing mission objectives, players can explore Anywhere City freely and engage in various activities such as carjacking vehicles, robbing stores, evading law enforcement officers, and engaging in other criminal activities.
Grand Theft Auto 2 features a variety of weapons which can be used to eliminate enemies or complete mission objectives. Weapons range from basic handguns to heavy machine guns and explosives. In addition to these weapons, players can also use melee weapons such as baseball bats or knives for close combat situations.
In addition to its single-player mode, Grand Theft Auto 2 also features a two-player split screen mode where two players can team up or compete against each other while playing through the game’s story mode together. This mode allows both players to work together or separately towards completing mission objectives while competing for money rewards or power ups that are scattered throughout Anywhere City.
Grand Theft Auto 2 received generally positive reviews upon its release with critics praising its open world design and expansive gameplay options. While some reviewers criticized the game’s lack of difficulty and repetitive nature, others praised it for its immersive atmosphere and freedom that it provides players with allowing them to choose how they want to play through the game’s story mode.
Overall Grand Theft Auto 2 is a classic open world action-adventure video game that still holds up today due to its expansive world design and variety of activities available for players to engage in during their playthroughs making it an essential title for any fan of the franchise looking for an old school gaming experience on their Nintendo Game Boy Color system
