In Exhibition mode, a single match can be played between two teams; in Season mode an entire season can be played; and in Playoffs mode, up to four players can compete in a tournament for the Stanley Cup.

Players have full control over their team's line-up, tactics and strategy during matches.

The game also features an instant replay feature that allows players to review key plays from any match they have just completed.

Players are able to save their progress at any time during a match or season using password codes which are available after each match.

The game also includes multiple difficulty levels for increased challenge as well as various camera angles for different perspectives while playing.

The graphics of ESPN National Hockey Night are very good considering it is a Game Boy Color title.

All of the NHL teams are faithfully recreated with detailed player sprites that animate smoothly when moving around the rink.

The ice surface itself looks realistic with its glossy sheen and realistic textures.

The rink boards also feature accurate representations of team logos and sponsor names which add to the realism of the overall presentation.

The sound effects in ESPN National Hockey Night are quite good with realistic crowd cheers, organ music and sound effects for goals scored and penalties called.

The music consists of several catchy tunes that play throughout matches which adds to the atmosphere of each virtual hockey game being played out on screen.

Overall, ESPN National Hockey Night is a solid hockey title that provides plenty of fun whether playing alone or against friends in multi-player tournaments or seasons with your favorite NHL team(s).

Although it may not be as deep or impressive as modern day console hockey titles, it still provides an enjoyable experience that dedicated hockey fans will appreciate despite its age and lack of modern advancements like 3D graphics or online playability options
