The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is an action-adventure game developed by Electronic Arts for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. It is based on the epic fantasy film trilogy directed by Peter Jackson and written by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Stephen Sinclair. The game was released in 2003 and follows Frodo Baggins as he battles against Sauron to destroy the One Ring.

The game starts with a brief introduction that recaps the events of The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. This is followed by a prologue where Frodo, Samwise Gamgee, and Gollum are climbing Mount Doom in Mordor. After a successful climb, they enter into their final confrontation with Sauron. This battle serves as a tutorial for players to learn how to control their characters and use various weapons to defeat enemies.

Players have full control over Frodo during gameplay as they can choose which weapons to equip him with and which special abilities he can use against foes. Players will also be able to unlock new levels, upgrade their characters’ stats, collect items, solve puzzles, and explore Middle Earth while completing missions assigned by Gandalf or other characters from the films.

While playing through each level of The Return of the King players will encounter various enemies such as orcs, trolls, wraiths, Nazgul, Haradrims and more. These enemies must be defeated using either melee combat or ranged weapons depending on what works best in each situation. Once all enemies have been defeated within a level players will then advance onto a new area or unlock a bonus level with additional rewards.

Throughout gameplay there are several mini-games that can be played such as archery contests or horseback riding races which provide bonus points when completed successfully. In addition to these mini-games there are also numerous side quests available that can be completed for additional rewards ranging from experience points to special items such as rare swords or shields.
